The Department of Radiation Oncology at West Jefferson Medical Center is the only facility of its kind on the West Bank. It is located on the north end of the first floor of the hospital. Various types of radiation therapy treatments are available to patients. Available technology includes two external beam Siemens linear accelerators, one KUKA CyberKnife®, one Varian High Dose Remote Afterloader, an Odelft simulator, a Picker Acqsim (CT simulator) and an ADAC 3D treatment planning computer. We also have the Varian MMS treatment planning system, and a B&K Leopard Ultrasound Scanner to perform Prostate Seed Brachytherapy. Other radiation treatments performed in the hospital include High/Low Dose Brachytherapy and Conformal Radiation Therapy. The Radiation Oncology Department is composed of several members of the health-related professions who function as a health care team to provide the patient with the best possible care. All personnel providing therapeutic services are appropriately licensed and/or certified. The medical staff includes four board-certified Radiation Oncologists, a Medical Radiation Physicist, two Dosimetrists, five Therapists, a Registered Nurse and Registered Dietician. When necessary, we implement the supportive care services of Sociology, Psychology, Surgery, or Chemotherapy. Care is taken to cooperate with these and other departments to adhere to the policies and to maintain a safe environment for both patients and personnel. The Radiation Oncology Department is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday for regularly scheduled treatments. There is a Radiation Oncologist on call 24 hours per day, seven days per week and a Therapist on call for weekends and holidays.
